Frequently asked questions

Why build a track record?
Because it's how you get people to actually invest. A verified record turns "I think I'm good at this" into proof someone can see, which is what convinces your first backers to put real money behind you. You build it on paper now, so when real money opens in early 2027 you're ready with months of results and a following already built, while everyone else is starting from zero.
When does real money open?
Early 2027. Managers who have built a track record on paper get first access. Everything you build between now and then carries over: your strategies, your record, and your followers. We email early-access members as the date approaches.
What can I trade?
US-listed stocks and ETFs, including sector and thematic funds, with fractional shares. Strategies are long-only for now, so no options, margin, or short selling. Crypto is coming soon, and more asset types and trading styles will open over time.
What does it cost?
Nothing to start. Launching and running simulated strategies is free, with no fees, minimums, or capital required. When your strategy runs real money, investors pay a single management fee. You keep 70% of it from your first dollar under management, rising to 80% as your assets grow. Oval's share comes out of that fee, so you never write Oval a check.
Do I need a license?
No. You don't need a license to launch a strategy, and you won't need one to go live. Strategies today run on simulated accounts, so there's no client money and no advisory relationship. When real money opens, investor accounts are advised through Oval's regulated structure rather than by you individually. You author the strategy, and the licensing burden sits with Oval.
Who sets the fee?
You do, subject to review. You recommend the management-fee rate for your strategy, and most managers choose a simple annual percentage of assets. Oval reviews and adopts it before the strategy takes real money. Investors pay that one fee and nothing else. There are no performance fees.

The industry has a new front door.
